What to Watch: Fall Television 2013

Meda White

The trailers for upcoming Fall television programming are teasing me. I’m getting excited to see some of my  favorite characters from past seasons and meet some new ones. There are a too many shows for me to invest in all of them but I’ve listed a few that I plan to watch, if time permits. Otherwise, I’ll put the DVR to good use and catch up between writing projects. These are ordered by premiere date.

Strike Back is already in its fourth season on Cinemax. It started in early August but episodes can be seen online and I need to catch up. If you like secret agents, foreign political intrigue, guns, explosions, and hot heroes, this is your show. The theme song is awesome too: Short Change Hero byThe Heavy. But, Phillip Winchester is the real reason I watch.

New Girl premieres Thursday, August 29th on Fox. In its third season, Zooey Deschanel plays Jess, who is the newest roommate to live with three crazy guys. This show makes me laugh a lot. I can’t wait to see what happens this season, especially between Nick and Jess.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., produced by Joss Whedon, premieres September 24th on ABC . If you liked Agent Coulson in Ironman 1 & 2, Thor, and The Avengers, you’ll be happy to see him alive and well as he assembles a team of agents to protect the ordinary from the extraordinary. One of the taglines reads: Not all heroes are super.

The Originals will premiere on Thursday, October 3rdon the CW. This series seems to have spun off from the Vampire Diaries but I am hopeful that this new show will be slightly less angsty than the other. The premise is that the original vampire family, headed by Klaus (a hybrid vampire/werefolf), returns to New Orleans to establish their supernatural dominion. Klaus was an anti-hero in TVD who did terrible things but I still wound up rooting for him in the end. I think it was those little touches of humanity that came through at times to show us he’s redeemable. I’m looking forward to this one.

The third season of Hart of Dixie premieres on Monday, October 7th on the CW. Set in small town Alabama, big city Doctor Zoe Hart might find herself in a love quadrilateral this season.  I love the cast of this show, even if Zoe’s actions occasionally remind me of a fourteen year old. She normally cleans up her messes by the end of each episode.

Dracula series premiere will be Friday, October 25th on NBC. The setting is 19th century London and stars Jonathan RhysMeyers whose character is bent on revenge until he finds, Mina, a reincarnation of his deceased wife.

As you can see my fall nights will be full. I have two vampire programs, a sitcom,  two CW shows, and agents of all kinds to keep me busy. What will you be watching?

  1. Your choice of fall programs sounds interesting. I usually only watch the current shows when I’m with my family, otherwise I stick with the tried and true Matlock, Perry Mason,Alford Hitchcock,In the heat of the Night, and comedies. All those seem to have such wonderful story lines.I think I may have been born in the wrong era.Happy fall viewing Meda.

  2. I’m waiting for old favorites NCIS, Once Upon A Time, Castle, Walking Dead, How I Met Your Mother…I’m sure I’m forgetting a few. And can’t wait until Game of Thrones and True Blood come back next year.

    1. We are BIG Walking Dead fans. I can’t believe it wasn’t on my list. October 13th. Woohoo!

I never got into NCIS, but I did watch OUaT the first season and enjoyed it. I got behind and never caught back up. I’ve seen Castle a few times and we love HIMYM too. “Suit up!”
