Find Holiday Delight in #ChristmasLights

Meda White

I remember the thrill of bundling up on cold December nights and loading up in the front-wheel sleighfor our parents to drive us around town and into the country to see Christmas lights. We always hoped we’d stumble upon the Griswold’s house, but even if we didn’t, there were plenty of “oohs” and “ahhs” as we found joy in the lights and displays.

When kids describe Christmas decorations, I never hear them use words like “tacky” or “gaudy”, unless they’re repeating an adult. More inflatables equals more fun in their minds.
What makes us lose our childish enthusiasm for excessive décor?

I suppose if you lived next to the Griswolds, you’d have something to complain about. But, we all remember their nasty “bah-humbug” neighbors. Do you want to be those people?
Go for a walk or take a drive and check out the Christmas lights. Let’s see if we can find delight and a little spirit to share this year.

  1. Oh I love the Christmas lights. Some kids never grow up and that’s me when it comes to Christmas decorations. I’ve been known to leave up decorations through April and a tree all year. There is something truly magical about Christmas lights; it reminds me of the beautiful colours with which God paints the earth.

    1. Haha- sounds like a Coastal Christmas. When we lived in Florida, we saw pink flamingos around palm trees covered in twinkle lights. It was very merry. Thanks for sharing.
