After last week’s Come Hell or High Water post, I knew I had to share a closely related phrase: If the Lord’s willing and the creek don’t rise.
The former describes what you’ll go through to accomplish something. The latter is what will prevent you from accomplishing something.
Q: Will we see you at church this Sunday?
A: Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.
The first part of the phrase has two options which are interchangeable.
If the Lord’s willing=Lord willing. Y’all know how we like to drop words on occasion.
The next time someone asks you if you will be somewhere or do something, you have your answer. Let’s here it with your Southern accent.
Have you heard other expressions which convey a similar meaning?
