It’s October. Time for ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night. My family has lots of spooky stories, real ones, and I plan to share a few of them this month.
My Grandmother had many premonitions of death in her life.
Once, she woke up during the night and saw a small casket on the wall. She woke her husband, but he didn’t see it. He told her they were going to hear of a death. The next day, a young boy was thrown off a horse and killed.
Another time, she got up to go to the bathroom and ran into something at the foot of her bed. There were three caskets lined up. Grandfather told her to expect three deaths. The next day, they learned a family had perished in a house fire.
Years ago, when the flu was going around the community, my Grandmother and her sister were visiting sick families to help take care of them. One day, they were on their way to see an elderly couple and were still a quarter mile away when they say a huge ball of fire explode out of the chimney. They ran to get there, believing the house was on fire. All they found were the dead bodies of the couple. They were still warm. My Grandfather said the fire was the souls departing.
Have you ever had a premonition of death?
wow. Love this. I, too, have had these things happen. Death, heart attacks and other maladies.
My Grandmother passed but there are other family members with the “sight”. I try not to be one of them because I scare very easily.
I haven’t had any premonitions, but your grandmother sure had her share! Maybe it’s because I’m legally blind, and when I get up in the middle of the night I don’t see anything. If there were coffins at the foot of my bed, I’d end up in one.
I know, Chris. When my grandmother used to tell me those stories, I’d snuggle up under somebody’s armpit for protection. The Lord knows I couldn’t handle it.
My daddy was a young man. His Grandmother turned real sick, and was real low. Daddy, his cousin, and brother, were going to see her, they had to walk down a narrow road then turn down a lane to reach Grandma’s. It was over in the afternoon and when they got about halfway down the road they saw their Grandma walking down the lane to meet them. They were so excited to see their Grandma so much better so they started running to meet her. But instead of turning to meet them she walked straight into the woods and rose up and was walking toward them on the top of the trees. They were afraid and ran on to Grandma’s house. Their uncle was on the porch waiting for them. They were breathless as they told him about what they saw. Their uncle told them to go say their goodbyes to their Grandma she’d be dead before the sunset. She died as the golden Sun lay it’s head against the soft pillow of the horizon.
Wow! I’ve got goosebumps. Cool story. Thanks for sharing.
