Tales From The Family Crypt: Roaming

Meda White

It’s October. Time for ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night. My family has lots of spooky stories, real ones, and I plan to share a few of them this month. Proper names have been changed for privacy purposes, but if you’re still alive (even if you’re not), you know who you are. Muahahahaha….

Roaming

In 1999, my mama (a.k.a. Chocolate) had a massive heart attack and was clinically dead for seven minutes. During that time, she envisioned being suspended over the hospital bed. The room had no ceiling except for a white owl with gold-tipped wings and curled talons. There was a man on one side and a little girl on the other. She didn’t recognize them, but they held her hands.
In the east, she saw a beautiful sun rising in a golden-red sky. From the sunrise, a man was calling her name. At the same time, a man’s voice called her name beside the bed. When she looked down, she saw herself on the bed and several people in the room, but she didn’t know who was calling her name.
Later, when she was in cardiac care, many family members travelled to see her. A few of them stayed with a cousin who lived near the hospital. Aunt Elaine and Aunt Susan were sleeping on separate couches in the living room and were both witnesses to a vision. A bright light illuminated the double doorway from the kitchen and my mom walked into the room. She didn’t acknowledge them, but walked past on her way down the hall.

The next morning, Aunt Elaine told Aunt Kelly, who’d been sleeping down the hall in one of the bedrooms, that Chocolate was gonna be okay because she walked through the night before.
Aunt Kelly said she agreed because her granddaughter had woken her up crying in the night and Chocolate reached down and said, “Hush baby, Aunt Chocolate’s here. It’s gonna be okay.”
They were right. My mama is still kicking and spooking us with tales from the family crypt.

Have you ever had a Near Death Experience? Did you ever see someone who shouldn’t have been there?

  1. My niece, an RN worked in a small hospital in Louisiana; she worked code reds. A woman came in and my niece immediately started CPR . She was determined that she wasn’t going to lose this lady. She finally brought her back and she was in ICU for a few days and D went to check on her. The lady ask D if her hair was thinning on top. D told her it was. The lady told her she was suspended in the ceiling watching D swearing and resuscitating her, and that is exactly the way D worked with patients. She would talk to them and swear and tell them to come back and fight. There are also others I know this has happened to.
